Age: ~20
Canon: Forest of Drizzling Rain
Canon Point: Before Shiori goes into the forest
Species: Human
Gender: Male
Orientation:Shiori-sexual Heterosexual
History: Suga was born in a small village in Japan. This village had a legend of a ghost called the Kotori Obake, who would cause any children who went into the forest and made a promise with her to disappear forever.
When Suga was young, his mother died. Because of that, and how quiet and sensitive he was, he was often teased by other kids. However, he did have one friend: a girl named Shiori who played with him often and would stand up for him.
Suga was not much older when he lost his father in a landslide. Shortly after that, he wandered into the forest, and came across the Kotori Obake. Shiori, who had been searching for him and found the two, agreed to make a promise with the Kotori Obake in order to protect him, and offered her life. Suga immediately tried to make a promise that the ghost would take him instead of her, but the promise with Shiori had already been made. All he could do was to ask that the Kotori Obake not take her life right away. In exchange for that, the ghost took his voice from him.
When Shiori and Suga returned from the forest, Shiori's parents and grandfather did the only thing they could to protect their child: it was sad that any child who remembered the promise would have to fulfill it, so they used a ritual to erase Shiori's memories of all that had happened in the village, and then her parents took her out of the village to live in the city.
Suga stayed behind, with her grandfather, helping him to manage the museum that they lived in. When the grandfather died, Suga took over as manager. The museum of the village got very little traffic, but it had a more important purpose: Suga was capable of keeping the spirits of the forest inside the forest and out of the village, and of at least trying to keep people and children from wandering in. He took this duty very seriously.
When Shiori was university age, her parents died in a car crash. The day afterwards, she found a photograph of them with a man she didn't recognize (her grandfather) at a place she didn't know (the village museum). Having no other living relatives and wondering why she didn't remember this place, she decided to go visit.
When she arrived at the museum, it was after hours, and she was very creeped out by things like all the lights going out, the doors locking, and the guy in black with a giant sword walking around. Eventually Suga cornered her and revealed that no, he just wanted to shove some memo paper in her face telling her to get out.
Suga really didn't want to let Shiori stay in the museum, or the village at all for that matter, but eventually was convinced that she could at least stay for a while, as long as she never left the museum.
...So of course after another girl gets lost and enters the forest, Shiori chases after her, and Suga has to chase after her.
What happens after depends on ending, but basically goes: Suga rescues the girl who started this. Shiori receives her memories back, of the village, Suga, and the promise, making her vulnerable to the spirits there. Suga wipes out a lot of childrens' spirits that are preventing him from getting to Shiori. Suga and Shiori attempt to escape, but depending on their actions, either Suga dies holding off the spirits to allow Shiori to escape, manages to survive but has to erase Shiori's memories again for her, or they both survive and he manages to receive his voice back after the spirits are purified.
Appearance: This dork.
Personality: People meeting Suga, particularly people meeting Suga in the context that the game introduces him (the dead of night, in a creepy museum, with nobody else around) will think he's a weirdo, or at least a little scary. He chases people down carrying a large sword. The fear factor tends to dissipate when he starts having a conversation through memo paper, but nevertheless: he doesn't seem like a normal person.
Suga is very strict on the rules. If it's after hours, you stay out of the museum. If he tells you not to leave the museum, you do not leave the museum. He seems like a harsh person, but considering that he lives literally a bridge and a rock away from a forest full of spirits who want to kidnap children, it's no wonder that he's so firm on what people can and can't do. It's for their own good.
Suga does a lot of things for other people's good. Despite that hardly anyone in the village believes in the Kotori Obake anymore, and almost nobody visits the museum, Suga continues to live there by himself, making sure that the people of the village are protected from the spirits. He's not appreciated by the villagers, some saying that the museum makes the village seem less modern, but nevertheless he's been living there for years and, in some endings, continues to live there for years so that they'll be safe.
He's a determined person - not that he never shows signs of hesitation, as the whispering of spirits that he's useless and could never protect anyone do seem to unnerve him, and he does hesitate to bring his sword on child spirits that are terrified of him, but he can steel himself to do unpleasant things when necessary. Especially for Shiori. He's willing to sacrifice himself so that she'll live, or in order for her to be safe, he's willing to erase all of her memories of him so they'll never see each other again. Suga takes his promise to protect Shiori extremely seriously, and nothing, no matter how painful it is to him personally, will get in his way.
That's not to say he doesn't have empathy for others - the children's spirits that have been taken by the Kotori Obake are harmless to him and he regrets having to cut them down to advance, and he gives up his last night glowstone to a purified spirit in order for it to protect its mother. Suga hasn't changed all that much from himself as a child, who didn't like playfighting and would rather pick flowers.
He cries easily, to the point where Shiori calls him a crybaby. He also gets embarrassed easily and isn't very good with expressing his feelings, though some of that is, again, to protect Shiori, for his ultimate goal is to get her out of the village and back to somewhere safe.
He's also incredibly organized, even with his trash.
Abilities: Suga's primary ability is that he's a craftsman. Specifically, he works with night glowstone, which has a number of functions but mostly is a protective charm against evil spirits. He can make it into jewelry, and he made an entire sword out of it as well.
He's not half bad with that sword, but he probably would be considered no expert at swordplay either: it helps a lot when your enemies are repelled by the mere presence of the material your sword's made of.
Other than that, he's very good at writing quickly and legibly. Comes with practice. And does terribly burning anything nice he tries to cook count as an ability?
